THE POPE, THE CONDOM, AND THE ELEPHANT

Judie BrownAs the pundits on both sides of the Catholic aisle continue to tear apart and personally interpret what Pope Benedict XVI meant when he made the comment about condoms and AIDS patients during his interview with Peter Seewald, one individual has finally pinpointed the enormity of what folks are ignoring as they ramble on and on-the elephant whose name is misunderstanding. Thanks to Jeffrey Mirus, Ph.D., for his insights. Enjoy!

Pope: Don't 'violate rights of unborn with ... in vitro fertilization'
Life Site News
Although it is seldom heard in North America, the Catholic Church opposes in vitro fertilization. I remember years ago while at the DC March for Life speaking to Chicago Cardinal Francis George about the lack of teaching from pulpits on the matter. He admitted frankly that the bishops had "dropped the ball" on the teaching against IVF. That failure has come back to haunt us in the form of embryonic stem cell research, which is a direct consequence of the spread of IVF since the embryos used for the in vitro procedure are mostly those 'left over' embryos from IVF procedures.
Rep. Michele Bachmann: De-fund Planned Parenthood
CNS News
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R.-Minn.) is calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to de-fund Planned Parenthood after the newly elected Republican majority takes charge next month. "Well, I think one thing that we can do, quite simply, is to withhold funding from Planned Parenthood," Bachmann said when asked by CNSNews.com what practical steps she believed the in-coming House majority could take to protect unborn babies. "It wouldn't mean that Planned Parenthood would go out of existence, because they do have their own independent funding, but what it would mean is that the taxpayer would no longer be funding that," said Bachmann.

Ireland reports 64 cases of "adverse reactions" to HPV vaccine

Life Site News
A report by the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) has shown that a vaccination program using Gardasil, the drug created to combat Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease, has resulted in 64 cases of "adverse reactions," including cardiac and allergic reactions and seizures. The figures are leading some in Ireland to accuse the IMB [of] not showing due consideration for the health of young people vaccinated with the drug.
