Late-Term Abortion Practitioner Carhart Faces Hundreds of Pro-Lifers
Hundreds of pro-life people turned out for a protest and press conference marking the first day of late abortions done by Nebraska-based abortion practitioner Leroy Carhart in Maryland.

Despite the bitter cold and blustery winds, they vowed not to rest until Carhart leaves Germantown and the state of Maryland.

So many people showed up that local police officials cordoned off an area for the pro-life advocates and set up a command post near the Reproductive Health Services Clinic in case any incidents occurred between peaceful pro-life advocates and pro-abortion counterprotestors.

Neither Carhart nor any representative of the abortion center made a public statement on Monday about his starting abortions there, which was supposed to begin today.

A handful of pro-abortion activists waited to help any women seeking abortions but, by noon, no one had asked for help finding the abortion center. Full story at LifeNews.com

Obama s Forcing Taxpayers to Fund Embryonic Research Gets Hearing
A federal appeals court held a hearing on Monday in a lawsuit filed seeking to overturn the executive order President Barack Obama issued forcing taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research.

Three judges questions attorneys representing adult stem cell research scientists and the Obama administration on the question of whether such funding it legal.

The scientists say the funding violates the Dickey-Wicker law passed in 1996 that prohibits federal funding of any research that involves the destruction of human embryos, which is necessary to obtain their stem cells.

Judge Royce Lamberth put an injunction in place in August and the three judges, who gave no indication of which way they would lean, will decide if that should be overturned. Lamberth found that federally funded embryonic stem cell research does violate the law and froze funding until the appeals court lifted the injunction pending this hearing a decision.

Department of Justice attorney Beth Brinkmann argued Lamberth s decision was fundamentally flawed because the government is supposedly funding the embryonic stem cells and not the human embryos themselves. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Group Worries Death Panels Added Back to ObamaCare
A pro-life organization that monitors end-of-life issues is worried the infamous death panels have been added back into the implication of the controversial ObamaCare health care law.

The so-called death panels came under fire when former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin used the phrase to describe the advance care planning consultations found in Section 1233 of the bill before the final version received Congressional approval. The infamous Section 1233 of HR 3200 would have federalized voluntary end-of-life consultations, and, in three states, had patients advised they could seek a legal assisted suicide.

The section was eventually dropped but the pro-life group LifeTree says the concerns are back again.

Last Monday, The Federal Register (page 73406) published a new funding rule for voluntary advance care planning consultations that changes Department of Health and Human Services regulation pertaining to Medicare and Medicaid patients, the group explains. Full story at LifeNews.com

Gingrich Leans to Presidential Bid, Huckabee: Media Too Focused on Palin
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a pro-life advocate, says he is more inclined than not to consider a presidential bid in 2012 seeking the GOP nomination against pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

Gingrich says he will probably not make a decision until late February or early March of next year but he says talking to friends and colleagues about a presidential bid is making him lean towards running.

In his comments, in an interview with Fox news Sunday, Gingrich says he sees the potential for winning the nomination and a general election contest against Obama is doable but he believes former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who lost the nomination bid to John McCain in 2008, is probably the front-runner.

We re much more inclined to run than not run, Gingrich said. Everything we ve done over the last year, talking to friends, thinking things through, has made us more inclined to believe that it s doable. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Organization Prepares for New Abortion Investigations
Live Action has made a national name for itself because of its undercover investigations of abortion centers showing video footage of staff misleading women on abortion s risks and fetal development.

The youth-led pro-life organization has also caught Planned Parenthood red-handed in covering up potential cases of statutory rape and staff members have been fired from their positions as a result.

Now, Live Action is preparing to launch several major investigations of the abortion industry next year and launching a new fundraising campaign designed to cover the expenses associated with it.

Our previous investigations have revealed shocking video evidence against commercialized abortion and prompted legislators and law enforcement to hold Planned Parenthood accountable, says president Lila Rose.

She told LifeNews.com: With recent unprecedented pro-life gains in state and local government, now is a critical time for the pro-life movement to keep the pressure on the abortion industry. Full story at LifeNews.com

Ted Turner Calls for Global One-Child Policy Like China s
Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, called on world leaders Sunday to address the global warming crisis by drastically reducing the number of people on the planet.

Maintaining that the very future of humanity was at stake, Turner urged immediate action: If we re going to be here [as a species] 5,000 years from now, we re not going to do it with seven billion people, said Turner, who went on to propose the immediate adoption of a global one-child policy.

The media mogul has long been infatuated with Chinese-style family planning. Appearing on National Public Radio on May 7th of this year, he praised the Chinese government for wisely institut[ing] the one-child family policy, put[ting] in penalties, tax penalties and so forth, for people that have more than one child.

Now the father of five, who has often publicly regretted having so many children, wants to extend China s policy to the rest of us. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Poll Claims Women Don t Trust Palin on Abortion
A new poll commissioned by Planned Parenthood claims women trust the abortion business on the issue of abortion more than they trust pro-life potential presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Planned Parenthood relied on Democratic pollster Hart Research Associates for the survey, obtained by Politico, showing voters side with the abortion business over Palin.

The survey asked the question Democratic pollster Hart Research Associates and found, for all women voters, 58 percent trust the abortion business and 22 percent trust Palin. Among independent women, the poll claims just 12 percent trust Palin more on women s health issues like abortion.

The survey also alleges 43 percent of all voters say Palin is out of step with their views on the issues while 31 percent say she is in line with their beliefs.

Palin has been outspoken on the issue of abortion and her new book talks about her pro-life views at length and the birth of her son Trig, who has Down syndrome. She has also frequently talked before pro-life groups at fundraisers and educational events. Full story at LifeNews.com

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Alternatives Still Present Moral Concerns
Scientists have recently developed a safe and efficient method to create induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from adult skin cells. Many opponents of embryonic stem cell research hail this news as an important step away from research methods that rely on destroying embryos. Despite this advance, the future of iPS cell research involves challenging moral and legal issues.

The therapeutic promise of stem cell research rests on using pluripotent stem cells, which can be grown into many of the types of cells found in the human body. Until recently, such cells could be produced only by destroying human embryos and harvesting embryonic stem cells. Opponents of embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) sought a method of producing pluripotent cells without destroying embryos. Their goal was to show that adult cells, rather than embryos, could provide the raw material for stem-cell therapy. Full story at LifeNews.com

Michigan Pro-Lifers Oppose New Abortion Clinic in Auburn Hills
Local pro-life advocates in the Detroit area will begin opposing the new abortion center Planned Parenthood is outfitting for Auburn Hills. The abortion business purchased a new facility last week.

Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan has purchased a new building that it plans to use to house a new abortion facility in this suburb north of Detroit.

It purchased the office building at 1625 N. Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills from Fidelity Bank for $733,150 and it plans to open the new abortion business in May or June of next year.

Eric Scheidler, the director of the Pro-Life Action League, tells LifeNews.com the battle to oppose the new abortion center begins tonight. Full story at LifeNews.com.
